Dr. Merel Jansen
Senior Research Scientist, Climate Scenarios for Sustainable Development
Dr. Merel Jansen is a Senior Research Scientist within the Climate Scenarios for Sustainable Development research team. She is one of the coordinators of the interdisciplinary project on agroecology. Her research focuses on the sustainable use and restoration of tropical forest resources, in particular non-timber forest products. She aims to identify solutions that can maximize ecological and livelihood benefits. She collect empirical data and uses this to parameterize models that simulate processes at individual tree, population and landscape levels. Currently, she is evaluating the potential of tropical agroforestry to provide different ecosystem services, including local and regional climate regulation, in south-west Amazonia.
