Dr. Dickens Odeny

Research Scientist, Hub East Africa

Dr. Dickens Odeny holds a Ph.D. in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with research on biodiversity and carbon storage modelling in East African landscapes. His academic foundation includes a Joint Master's degree in Water and Coastal Management from the University of Plymouth and Algarve and a Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science from Kenyatta University (Kenya). His focus areas include biodiversity hotspot analysis , monitoring of carbon sequestration using plot-based and remote sensing approaches, Leaf Area Index assessments, and predicting impacts of climate change on species distribution, and hydrological modelling. Professionally, Dr. Odeny has been instrumental in numerous projects, including mapping biodiversity hotspots and dryland natural assets, developing land-use plans, monitoring carbon sequestrations, ecological impact assessment of development projects, and the assessment of the restoration opportunities for biodiversity (and ecosystem services).
