Resilient Buffer Zones

How can local interests be matched with forest conservation?

Buffer zones around protected areas are an opportunity for testing innovative conservation models that create the co-benefits needed by local populations in order to reduce pressure on natural resources. The project will work with local authorities and farmers to develop and test an integrated management strategy for the buffer zone of Tambopata Natural Reserve, which can subsequently be applied to other protected areas and scaled up to larger expanses of land. The strategy will involve sustainable economic activities, forest management approaches, and legal support to prevent incursions.
